Work Experience

Forensic Engineering Consultant and Expert Witness

Forensic Engineering Consultant and Expert WitnessJefferson City, Tennessee

Roger W. Griffith, P.E., provides forensic engineering consulting and expert witness services in matters involving building mechanical systems, fuel gas systems, and hot water systems. His work focuses on the technical evaluation of incidents involving carbon monoxide exposure, hot water scalding, fuel gas failures, and related building system performance issues.

Mr. Griffith has been retained in over 125 forensic matters across multiple jurisdictions, involving residential, commercial, institutional, and public housing facilities. His assignments typically include evaluation of building system design, installation, operation, maintenance, and code compliance, as well as assessment of system performance relative to accepted engineering practice.

He provides independent engineering analysis and expert testimony in state and federal courts for matters involving residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. His work focuses on evaluating system design, installation, operation, and maintenance in relation to applicable codes, standards, and accepted engineering practice.

Mr. Griffith’s forensic experience includes investigations of carbon monoxide poisoning, fuel gas leaks and explosions, gas appliances and venting failures, and hot water scalding incidents. His analyses are grounded in engineering fundamentals, field investigations, document reviews, testing where appropriate, and comparisons to governing codes and standards.

In addition to forensic practice, Mr. Griffith participates in developing and revising national building and fuel gas safety standards through technical committee involvement. His standards work informs his understanding of how codes are intended to function in real-world conditions and how deviations from those standards can contribute to hazardous outcomes.

Mr. Griffith is a licensed Professional Engineer with multi-state licensure and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is retained by both plaintiff and defense counsel and provides objective opinions based on the facts, engineering principles, and applicable standards in each case.
